Chemical peels work through a process called controlled chemical exfoliation, where carefully selected acids are applied to the skin to break down the bonds between dead skin cells. This process, known as keratolysis, allows the damaged outer layer to shed naturally, revealing fresher, healthier skin underneath.
Different acids are used depending on the skin concern being treated. Glycolic acid (an AHA) helps improve overall texture, brightness, and fine lines, while salicylic acid (a BHA) penetrates deeper into pores to control oil, acne, and congestion. Lactic acid provides gentle exfoliation along with hydration, making it suitable for sensitive or dry skin, whereas retinol-based peels work at a deeper level to stimulate collagen renewal and improve skin structure.
As the skin undergoes this controlled renewal process, fibroblast activity increases, leading to enhanced production of collagen and elastin. Over time, this results in smoother, firmer, and more evenly toned skin with improved clarity and resilience.
The procedure is quick and performed under controlled clinical conditions. You may feel mild tingling or warmth during application, which is normal.
